I Found this on the blog of "Provocative Church": A Quote from Timothy Keller's "Church Planter Manual":
“Legalistic remorse says, ‘I broke God’s rules,’ while real repentance says, ‘I broke God’s heart.’ Legalistic repentance takes sin to Mt. Sinai, gospel repentance to Mt. Calvary. Legalistic repentance is convicted by punishment, gospel repentance becomes convicted by mercy.”
Made me realize The BEAUTY of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Yes! When the Holy Spirit touches our lives we are immediately filled with guilt, remorse and sadness for all the sin we have done. When we look upon God's Holiness, we cannot help to cry Out like Isaiah: Woe to me!
NOT BECAUSE WE ARE AFRAID OF PUNISHMENT, BUT BECAUSE WE REALIZE HOW WE BROKE OUR LOVING FATHER'S HEART BY WHAT WE DID.
The motive is Love.
